A Good Weekend

Finally I am started to feel better.  We were able to run some errands on Saturday and attend worship yesterday.   On Saturday we had a call from the Georgia grand kids.  They are so funny.  3 year old Logan had the sleeping arrangements down for when we come and see them,  he said Papa is going to sleep on the top bunk.  Nana is going to sleep with Mommy and his daddy is going to sleep with his sister.  This is not really how it is going to be but we were rolling over laughing.  He wants us to play fireman and fire girl with him.  Emma wants us to go to school and eat lunch with us and she named about a dozen games that we will be playing.  I am so excited.

Today since I took the day off  I made some cards for Brenda our African granddaughter.  I do have to head to the dentist this afternoon for a crown replacement so I am not looking forward to that.

Have a great Monday!

Emma and Logan

Today when I got home from work there sat two envelopes that were addressed to Marvin and I, aka Papa and Nana.   The envelopes were from the Stationary kits that I made for each Grandchild  for Christmas.  I made 25 pieces of stationary and then enclosed 2 self stamped envelopes so they could draw us a picture or write us a letter and then mail them to us.  So today this is what we received
The first one is from 3 year old Logan, he used the car and motorcycle piece and drew us something.

Then 6 year Emma used her flower paper and her boat paper,  She is such the artist.
She even sent us some school work so we could see how good of a student she is.

We are so blessed and our hearts are full of joy and love for these precious blessings.   I was nearly in tears and I was shaking when I was trying to open it so fast.  We are really going to enjoy these.

Thank you Emma and Logan we love and can't wait to see you.  Thank you mommy ( our daughter Jennifer) too for helping them with this project.  We love you and cannot wait to see you and Matt.

“Sticks and Stones may break my bones but words will never harm me”

“Sticks and Stones may break my bones but words will never harm me” I have been saying this for years and yet sometimes I do get hurt. The timing of this BLOG is of course after I have been hurt by words again and I try to understand why are these words necessary.

During these periods I pray that God will soften that person’s heart that has offended me. I also go to my bible. I have to stay focused and not feel revengeful because the devil is right there tempting me. This is such a struggle but I am learning to deal with this.

I have found several verses of comfort, and let me tell you the Holy Spirit is guiding me.

Ephesians 4:32 NIV
Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.

Galatians 6:1-6 NIV
1 Brothers and sisters, if someone is caught in a sin, you who live by the Spirit should restore that person gently. But watch yourselves, or you also may be tempted. 2 Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ. 3 If anyone thinks they are something when they are not, they deceive themselves. 4 Each one should test their own actions. Then they can take pride in themselves alone, without comparing themselves to someone else, 5 for each one should carry their own load. 6 Nevertheless, the one who receives instruction in the word should share all good things with their instructor.

John 13:34 NIV
A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.

1 Peter 2:1-3 NIV
1 Therefore, rid yourselves of all malice and all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and slander of every kind. 2 Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation, 3 now that you have tasted that the Lord is good.

James 4:17 NIV
17 If anyone, then, knows the good they ought to do and doesn’t do it, it is sin for them.

Have a blessed day!

An unexpected blessing that made my heart cry of joy.....

I love when my grand kids draw me pictures so I can hang them in my office.  A couple of weeks ago when our grand kids were here I asked 7 year old Kayla to draw me a picture for my office. I brought out all the color books and paper out for her to get to work.   She worked for a while and then handed me the picture she drew for me.   She explained to me that the picture was of Jesus hanging on the cross.  She pointed out that she had even drew the nails.
I was blown away.  Kayla does not attend Church normally unless she goes with us although she did go to 2 years of Christian pre-school at our Church.  I also know she likes her mom to read to her from the Children's bible.  At this point I didn't know if this picture was the one for the office because generally she colors and paints many different pictures.  When they got ready to leave she said "Nana the picture of Jesus is for your office"  again I was caught off guard because in some workplaces you can not display personal items but guess where that picture landed
in my office of course.  I knew that is where it should go.  Let me tell you though I put it on my face book to see what my friends would say and one hundred percent of them said to hang proudly in my office.

Thank you Kayla for blessing me in the most wonderful way.  I know Kayla has Jesus in her heart and that is the best thing she could ever give me.  I love you Kayla.

An Adorable Birthday surprise

My granddaughters Kayla and Morgan skyped me on my birthday since they could not spend the day with me.  They were so excited to show me what they made me for my Birthday.  Their mommy Sara helped them make these beautiful frames and then filled them with a picture of each one of them.  I love it.  Thanks Sara for helping the girls.

Have a blessed day!

My new Futon

About three weeks ago I blogged about my wonderful daughter Holly giving me her Futon for my birthday.  She needed the room so I told her I would gladly take it off her hands.  She had to bring it down in two pieces since it is so big.  Marvin and Holly spent some time putting it together
and then the next week she brought down the mattress.
Isn't it beautiful?  I love it.  Right now it is in the guest room but when I remodel Max's room (after he is gone) it will be Janet's room.  Oh I can't wait to make it a feminine room for reading, crafts and just for me.
However, right now this futon has another use.  Kayla and Morgan slept together in it last weekend and Tiger has found a new place for his cat naps.

I am slowly getting better from this bad cold.  Boy it really wiped me out.  I missed 2 days of work but I am finally able to breathe a little better.  I need to get outside and get some sun and fresh air.

Have a great weekend!

12th Day of Christmas

The Twelfth Day is January 5th, the last day of the Christmas Season before Epiphany (January 6th).
Twelve Drummers Drumming

The twelve points of doctrine in the Apostles' Creed: 1) I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. 2) I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord. 3) He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. 4) He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell [the grave]. 5) On the third day he rose again. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father. 6) He will come again to judge the living and the dead. 7) I believe in the Holy Spirit, 8) the holy catholic Church, 9) the communion of saints, 10) the forgiveness of sins, 11) the resurrection of the body, 12) and life everlasting.

Marvin's note to me was in reference to God having control and since he does we should have trust him completely.

This first picture is with us and all four grandchildren,

This second picture is with our adult children and their spouses meeting for meal.  .

My note to Marvin was a wrap up of this time we spent writing notes to each other.  I told him that we could get through anything with Jesus at our sides.
Marvin bought me several gifts,  My favorites are the photo album that he made for me, slippers and a tool box.  Tonight he just brought me home something I said I wanted yesterday (a needle nose pliers).  I also got a thing you put in the shower to wash your feet.  I still have not tried it.  Like I said earlier the notes were the best part.
I bought Marvin. a couple of new shirts for church, a t shirt, a Los Angeles Lakers calendar, A poker book, and many scratch off tickets (all losers).  Marvin did put in his last note that he did not want to do this again.

Although this is end of the 12 days of Christmas I am anxious to tell you what we have been doing the last few weeks.

10th and 11th day of Christmas

10th day of Christmas January 3rd
10 Lords of Leaping
The Ten Commandments (Exodus 20:1-17)

And God spoke all these words:
1 You shall have no other gods before[a] me.
2. Do not make an idol
3. Do not take Gods name in vain
4. Remember the Sabbath Day
5. Honor your father and mother
6. Do not murder
7. Do not commit adultery
8.  Do not steal
9.  Do not bear false witness
10.  Do not covet
This is a random picture one year and Halloween.  I had fake nails that year so that is why I was holding my hands up.
My note to Marvin was that the meanings of the commandments are much more than the words.
11th day of Christmas  January 4th
11 Pipers Piping
The 11 Faithful Apostles
Simon Peter, Andrew, James, John, Phillip, Bartholomew, Matthew, Thomas,  James bar Aplhaeus, Simon the Zealot, Judus bar James.
Marvin's note to me was about the 12th man Judas who betrayed Jesus.  He also listed some verses 1. Love your enemies.2. Do unto others as you would have them do to you.  3. Give and it will be given to you.
4. Forgive and you will be forgiven.  5.  Do not judge and you will not be judged.
The first picture below is with granddaughters Kayla and Morgan at the coast
The second picture is with grand kids Emma and Logan
My note to Marvin was a reminder of God Faithful Apostles.  They were chosen by Jesus to preach the Gospel.
Also some interesting facts I learned while reading an Amish Christmas Novel.  The Amish do not decorate for Christmas but they do celebrate the Birth of Christ.  This is done on December 25th and this day is also filled will prayer and meditation and sometimes they even fast.   On December 26th the second day of Christmas is for gift giving.

In a couple of days I will finish off the 12 days of Christmas with the 12th and final and day.  I will then share some of the gifts that we exchanged.

8th and 9th day of Christmas

8th day of Christmas January 1st
8 Maids of Milking
The eight Beatitudes Matthew 5:3-10

Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.
Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.
Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy.
Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.
Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.
Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Marvin's note to me was about the New Year.  He referenced Gods guidance in the past gives courage for the future.

This picture below was when we were on our cruise in October of 2000

And the other picture is Marvin and I making Almond Crunch for Christmas in 2002
My note to Marvin was about the New Year and that he feel God's presence in his life everyday.

9th Day of Christmas January 2nd
9 ladies dancing
The nine fruit of the Holy Spirit

The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness, and self control.

Marvin's note to me was about doing good to all.  A man reaps what he sows.  The one who sows to please the Spirit will reap eternal life.

This picture is when we were at Lake Tahoe
My note to Marvin was about how how he has shown me an example of each of these fruits and that he is a
wonderful man in the Holy Spirit.

Have a blessed day!

4th and 5th days of Christmas

Fourth Day of Christmas December 28th
Four Calling Birds

"The Four Gospels:  Matthew, Mark, Luke and John which proclaim the Good news of God's reconciliation of the world to himself in Jesus Christ."

On the fourth day of Christmas Marvin's note to me was the love of our four grandchildren.

My note to Marvin was a reminder of a Bible Study that we took with the late Pastor Gary Wells and how much we learned from him.  This man gave us such a gift and we miss him.

Fifth Day of Christmas December 29th
Five Golden Rings

"The first five books of the Old Testament, know as the Torah or the Pentateuch:  Genesis, Exodus. Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy, which gives the history of humanity's sinful failure and God's response of grace in the creation of  people to be a light to the world."

Marvin's note to me was things that come in 5's.  The picture below is me and my brothers and sisters about 15 years ago.  From left to right David, Danny, Joan, Janet (that's me) and Joyce.

This picture below is our family of five.

My note to Marvin was some knowledge of the first five books of the old testament.
1.  Genesis-Author unknown, the beginning, creation
2.  Exodus-Author Moses, story of water from the rock to provide life giving water for the people to drink
3.  Leviticus- Author Moses, talks about sacrifices, clean and unclean food, childbirth and disease.
4.  Numbers-Author Moses takes place in the wilderness
5.  Deuteronomy-Author Moses, the 10 Commandments, Gods Faithfulness, Holiness, blessings and warnings.

Once again I am at loss for what gifts we exchanged.  I think at the 12 days of Christmas post I will mention the gifts we received.  Because I can not remember I think the notes were much more important that a material item.

Have a blessed day!

2nd and 3rd days of Christmas

Second Day of Christmas December 26th

Two Turtle Doves
The Old and New Testaments, which together bear witness to God's self-revelation in history and the creation of  people to tell the Story of God to the world.

Marvin's note was based on the old (1978 in line waiting to get into prom)

and now

My gift to Marvin was an email with a video of a star ornament that his mom made that plays a song.  The only thing I could not get it to play.  I have to get some assistance from our son.  My message referenced a memory.

Third Day of Christmas December 27th

Three French Horns
The Three Theological Virtues:  1)Faith 2)Hope and 3)Love (1 Corinthians (13:13)

Marvin's note to me represented our three children

not sure the year maybe 1997

I wrote Marvin a personal card that said Faith will carry us through anything, Hope will produce joy and peace, and the love I profess for Jesus and Marvin.

We cannot remember what our gifts were for these days so they may have been cards or scratch off tickets which we did not win a cent on.  Just little fun gifts.

The First day of Christmas

A Partridge in A Pear Tree

The Partridge in a pear tree is Jesus the Christ, the son of God whose birthday we celebrate on December 25th the first day of Christmas.

The 1st Day of Christmas Marvin gave to me
this photo album and found pictures each day to put it in.  He wrote me note that was full of firsts.  Even though I knew that he loved me he proclaimed this in a note he wrote to me about the first day I came into his life.  What a wonderful memory.

The first picture that went into the book was our wedding picture that appeared in the local paper
My gift to Marvin was in combination gifts from Holly since she found this great website.  So I got Marvin the shirt below
A perfect gift for Marvin the Corn husker lover.......(I love them too)
My note to him was to Celebrate the Lords birth with Love and Joy by giving a gift.

As you can tell we our interpretations were different but alike.   I love that we were able to express our feelings.

Still to come the 2nd day of Christmas

Have a Blessed day!

What we learned from each other during the 12 days of Christmas

This year Marvin and I decided to give gifts for the 12 days of Christmas. We had decided that we would make a card each day that would have the spiritual meaning of each day and then if we could tie it to our lives. It was so hard but I am glad to we listened to the Lord and completed this task. Before I go into what we did each day I want to tell you what we have gained from this experience.

1. We each had to pick up our bible each day. I used bible gateway on the computer. It is easier for me to see it that way and I can find things easier.

2. For me it made me love Marvin even more. My heart was filled with such joy as I read each note every day. His love for God, me and our family are so great and even though I knew this I liked it when he put it on paper in his own words.

3. Time- we had to spend time on it each day. You know when you try to think of something and you just can’t seem to get the right words. It was praying for the right words and experiences that I could relate to in each message.

4. Gifts-we are not big gift givers but it was fun to try to find something even if it was small to give to each other.

5. Discussion-we discussed the meaning each day and since everyone can have different interpretations it was fun to see the others point of view.

So as you can tell this was a wonderful experience. Within the next few days I will be posting some more on the 12 days of Christmas.

Have a blessed day!

A fun surprise yesterday

Yesterday started to be a dreaded day to take all the Christmas decorations down.  We have so many.  I knew it was going to take a while.  Marvin and I got up early ate breakfast and started immediately getting the empty boxes and totes down from the attic.  We had been working about 3 hours straight when our daughter Holly called and wanted to chat a bit.  So we took a break and then back at it again.  I was sweating, my hair was a mess and I was dirty.  Then there was a knock at the door and in walks my sweet Holly with a Chai tea in her hand and my birthday present in her car.  What a pleasant surprise.  We visited, she helped get this stuff back up in the attic and then her and Marvin unloaded my birthday present.  Holly gift to me was a beautiful Futon that she had in her bedroom that she wanted to get rid of it.   I told her I wanted it and it would be a great Birthday/Mothers Day gift.  So she stuffed all but the cushion in her car and surprised me.  Below is a picture of  Marvin and Holly working on getting it put together.

Holly and I took off to go to the Movies and Marvin finished putting it together.  I will post more next week when she brings the cushion down.    I have been so blessed.

In a couple of weeks I will tell you all about my Birthday surprise from Kayla and Morgan.  We got to skype so I could see it but I am going to wait to tell you about it when I have pictures of them.

Also Marvin and I decided for our gift exchange this year to do the 12 days of Christmas.  It has been a wonderful experience and we have grown closer to each other and God.   I also will be blogging about it after we have completed all 12 days.

Have a blessed week!
