Grateful Sunday full of many blessings

Sunday morning at 9 am our two grand daughters 7 year old Kayla and 4 year old Morgan came to stay with Nana and Papa all day.  What a fun day it was.  Immediately upon arriving Kayla asked me where her Princess Diana book was that I ordered for her on eBay (after a hug of course).  This book is filled with many color photos with captions of  Diana's fashion all throughout her life as a Princess.
Debrett's Illustrated Fashion Guide to the Princess of Wales: Revised Edition
We looked at the book for about an hour so I could answer many questions.    Kayla got up and walked over to this framed picture of Marvin and I that we have sitting on the mantel on the fireplace.  This picture was was 2005 when we were on our cruise.
Kayla said to me "Nana you look like Princess Diana in that picture, BUT you are as old as the QUEEN"  I was feeling so good about the compliment until she thought that I was really old.  Actually if Princess Diana would have lived we would be very close in age.

Out next conversation was putting our family in birth order. I told her it was  Papa, Nana, Jennifer, her daddy Jeremy and then I said Holly was the baby.  She could not believe that Holly was the baby.  So then she wanted to know the height from tallest to shortest.  I had to get out some pictures to look.

We finally decided the tallest was Papa, then Jeremy , then Holly, Jennifer and Nana.   I continued to pull up more pictures when I came the picture below.  The picture was taken at Outback Steakhouse last August.

4 year old Morgan got all excited to see her mom, dad, Nana and Papa.  Then in her dramatic voice she said "Morgan was lost, she went home"  Her eyes got big and she was so serious because she was not in the picture.  That is because we decided not to take the kids.    It was so cute.

The rest of the day was filled with papa making Goulash for lunch and Root Beer Floats for a snack.  Of course Papa had just bought some Girl Scout cookies and Cheetos too!    We bought Morgan a new book too of Bugs and Spiders and Papa looked at her new book with her.

And of course there was time to snuggle.  Tiger wanted to snuggle too.
The girls left around 4:45 so we had  a long day.  Tomorrow I will tell you what we did after the girls left to continue on with receiving more blessings.

Have a Happy week!

Thankful Thursday

I am thankful that I called and talked to a friend Sheila that I have not talked to in a long while.  She just needed someone to listen to her.

I am thankful for the small amount of snow we received.  It was just beautiful and when you don't see it that often you really enjoy it.

I am thankful that I was able to work from home today since the road were slick.

I am thankful for a wonderful Saturday and Sunday that we were able to spend with Holly and Ricky.  We had such a good time.

I am thankful that our daughter  Holly and her husband Ricky were able to attend worship with us last Sunday.

I am thankful for the heat in my house.  Most of the time I get to hot but it has been really cold and I am glad we have it and a warm place to sleep.

I am thankful that my daughter Holly, and hubby Marvin got home from work safe today.  Most of the snow had melted so commute was easy.

I am thankful that my sister Joyce and her husband Scott got home from their cruise safely.  They had a fog issue that delayed their ship from getting in to port.

I am thankful that our vacation is get close and we are going to get to see out daughter Jennifer, son in law Matt and grand kids Emma and Logan.....

Blessings Janet

A fun weekend with Holly and Ricky hiking and loving the lambs

Our weekend started by Marvin and I working the Church concession stand on Saturday at the Basketball  game.  Our daughter Holly and her husband Ricky went to the game.  They stopped by and supported us so we could serve them.

Sunday morning it was up and early to Church.  The sermon was on forgiving and was very good.  Ricky's mom and nephew Kolton attended too.  I was in awe as our family all bowed our heads after we received Communion for our personal prayer of reflection and thanksgiving to our Lord.

After Church we came back home and ate a quick chili dog and headed to Mt. Piscah for hiking.  The temperature was about 40 degree and the wind was cold.

I must say I cannot believe that I am posting these FAT pictures of me but I guess the truth hurts.  I have been so good on the treadmill so I thought it would be a breeze.  This was not the case.
Now you can see I use ski poles.  My son-in-law Ricky brought them for me a couple of years ago and they do help a lot.
Holly was really good waiting with me while I caught my breath.

Marvin and I rested at the first bench while the others went all the way to the top.   Going down the hill was easier but i twas hard on the knees.  I was so glad I had the ski poles.  They helped do some arm work too.   This is just the beginning though because we plan to do it again soon.

After we all down the hill we headed out to Ricky's mom house in the country to see the baby lambs.  I raised sheep to show at the local  fair for 4-H when I was growing up so I could not wait to get my hands on one.  There was twin black ones .
She snuggled right up to me even though she had poo on her feet.  We even baa'd together.  Oh man I want one so bad.
Holly like babies too!

The mama sheep was so protective of the male lamb.
Isn't she cute?  I finally figured out why the mama lamb looked different.  We raised Suffolk lamb sheep (they are white with black faces)   I really want one.   What do you think Marvin?

It was a great weekend!  Today I am very sore from the walk up the mountain.

Thankful Thursday

1.  I am thankful for our Diaconate team at Church.  Last week was our week to serve and at the last minute we found out our leader was sick so Marvin and I were asked to lead.  Our team is so great and we all work so well together so they made our job easy.

2.  I am thankful for a good dentist appointment yesterday.  I got my permanent crown and a filling.  It wasn't as bad as I thought.

3.  I am thankful for the all the Valentine surprises that Marvin gave me.  We have known each other for 34 years and our love just continues to grow.  Of course we have to work on it now and then but since we have gotten closer to the Lord our love has flourished.

4.  I am thankful that I have been doing well on my personal project that I am calling Nproject.  I named it that because my friend Nellie suggested what I should do to resolve this issue.

5.  I am thankful for my son Jeremy.  He is a great husband and daddy.  He even let 7 year old Kayla paint his toenails.  LOL

6.  I am thankful for programs like The Alaska Gold Rush and Flying Wild Alaska are on TV.  Marvin and I love to watch these shows together and have seen the beauty of the state of Alaska.

7.  I am thankful that I remembered yesterday that I had written two checks but forgot to pay the bills.  I don't want any late payments.

8.  I am thankful that my mom called Tuesday night and we got to chat.

9.  I am thankful that the roads are not slick this morning.  We are in a weird weather system that may produce snow.

10.  I am thankful that one day earlier this week all three of my kids called just to talk to their mom.  What a joy that was to my heart.

Have a Blessed Thursday and be sure to count your blessings today not your problems.

Normally we do not do a lot to celebrate but Marvin made me a special Dinner last Saturday night of Cornish Hens and stuffing with White Chocolate dipped strawberries for dessert.  Then tonight when I got home from work he made me a card (It was so sweet)
and then to top it of he made some yummy Carmel brownies.  But before we eat the brownies we had this

That's right a heart shaped pizza........What a great Valentines weekend and day!  Thanks Marvin I love you!

Idols and Material items

Do you idolize someone, a sports team, a movie star, a member of Royalty, a person that has a lot of money or a person with natural beauty?    Do you have to have a certain kind of car, a certain brand of shoes, an office, a brand new home, a certain job title or a dream vacation?

Can you tell what I am getting at?  Idols and Material items.  Did you know that is breaking the very first commandment.

"You shall have no other Gods before Me.” Exodus 20:3

This commandment is not only about putting God first it goes for all our material possession as well.  What do we really need to survive.
Marvin and I had this discussion recently and I asked him why he always had to wear a cap with a sports logo or a t-shirt with a sport name on it.   I asked why he didn’t have a shirt or hat that says Jesus.  He said he had never thought of it.   I think it is because society has made it acceptable, we all think it is okay to idolize everything.

I recently received an email from a blogger friend that had a perfect analogy in a letters of the word Joy that explains this.

1. Jesus

2. Others

3. Yourself
That is right we are commanded to always put Jesus first. I myself am guilty of breaking this commandment and not even realizing it.  What about you?
When Marvin and I were also discussing this I asked him if he had ever thought about when the Queen dies and go before our Lord.  He will not be bowing in front of her.  She of course will be bowing in front of him.  She is expected to follow the same commandments as you and I do.  I wonder what that will be like?

Have a great day!

Serving the Lord

Last Saturday I decided that I would help with the Concessions at the Oregon Ducks men's basketball game. Our Church mans this concession stand and it benefits the youth. Marvin has really enjoyed working there but I was unsure if I could stand that long and if my back could take it. I had a lot of fun. Because this was my first time I decided to take an easy job; the soda fountain. That way Marvin stood beside me and did the register. It was kind of comical putting Marvin and I together because I like to tell him what and how to do things. But it started out that first he said I was putting to much ice in the cup and then not enough soda. He was driving me crazy because someone would be giving him their order and instead of him punching the order into the register first so you could refer back to it he would just start getting the stuff before they were done ordering and then I couldn’t remember what they said.   But we worked it out and were a great team. What a better way to spend a Saturday with my husband and serving the Lord.
Serving the Lord is something that I have been praying for guidance on how and where to for a while now. I didn’t realize it but I serve the Lord everyday when I go to work, greet someone, listen to someone, ask someone how they are, holding the door open for someone, sharing my food and the list goes on and on. When I work I do have a change in mindset. I say to myself to work at my job as if I was working for the Lord. How great is that? It is so easy to serve our Lord.

Have a blessed Monday!

Bad Dentist Experience and a Wednesday Surprise

Monday when I went to the dentist for what I thought was a crown replacement was really a broken tooth (that I broke back in October) that needed a crown.  I have had so much Dental work done that after I get through the shots I am just fine.  Have you ever seen one of those needles?  I have because I wanted to .  Anyway the hygienist came into numb me up.  That was a first as I always have the Dentist give me the shots.  So anyway she gave me 2 shots and I swear her hands were shaking.  The Dentist came in and gave me one more shot in the roof of my mouth (okay that is the most horrible one)  Then he gets ready and starts drilling and I jump and scream because the tooth was not numb.  This has never happened to me before.  The Dentist had to take a time out but was very professional and so was his assistant.  He gave me another shot (total now 4 shots) and continued on.  I was fine then because I had Jesus right there with me overseeing everything.  I am glad that is done for now until I go back and get the permanent crown in a couple of weeks and I have to get some more shots.

Yesterday morning my son Jeremy called me and told me he was bring the family down with him to stay at our house while he attended a Managers Meeting.  My daughter in law brought the girls up to see me at work which was so wonderful.  When I got home we decided that would we go eat some BBQ.  We had such a wonderful time.  The girls each drew me a few pictures.  The first one 4 year Morgan drew when we were at the restaurant.  A very colorful pig (since we were eating pork)

The next one is a cute one that Kayla drew for me of my 15 year old baby kitty.

I think she did a good job.  Here is a real picture of my baby kitty aka McKenzie.  She was kind of crabby in this picture

In the restaurant Kayla also drew me this beautiful flower with a butterfly.

I had the most amazing time last night with my family.  Even though we did not have a lot of time we made the most out of the time we had.
