It has been a busy week

Wow this week has flown by so fast. We had our daughter in law Sara, and granddaughters Kayla and Morgan here through Thursday. We really enjoyed them being here. They are now in Vancouver staying with Holly waiting into Monday to get into their house. Marie their cat is still here and doing fine.

Today has been a busy one too. We are working on projects for the grand kids. Next Saturday we will get to see the Georgia grand kids Emma and Logan. We are really excited.

Today we also went to a retirement party for a friend. She is 53 and retiring. She has a great pension. I told her I would give her a call in 15 years for retirement tips.......We are happy for her.

Today along with all the errands and partying we went out to the produce farm. We picked up some blackberries (my favorite) cherries, green beans, cucumbers and some other items. I just love all those local fresh items.

Last night we headed to Hop Valley so I could try the Ahi tuna sandwich that a friend recommended. I should have know when it said it is served rare that I would have difficulty eating it. I ate half of it and it was everything I could do to keep it down. I literally had to close my eyes and concentrate so I would not think about it. Today when we were watching the food channel I just about hurled when I saw the raw tuna. Lesson learned.......

I am looking forward to the week ahead so I can see the my kids and grand kids.

Blessings
Janet

Life is Good

This is the day the LORD has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it. Psalm 118:24

Life is what you make it. Today life is good. We have so many blessings and exciting things happening in our lives.

In a few weeks we get to see our daughter Jennifer, son in law Matt and GRAND KIDS Emma and Logan from Georgia.

Our Oregon grand kids Kayla, Morgan, our daughter in law Sara and their cat Marie are moving in with us for a few days until go up to Holly's so they find a house in Portland.

We get see our daughter Holly and son in law Ricky in a few weeks.

We got a letter from our African daughter Brenda today. What a pleasant surprise. She shares that their weather has been in a rainy season and crops are growing well. She is hoping for a good harvest. She is only 7 years old. She will start nursery school this year. She loves to go to Sunday school and to the mixers with the other sponsored children and is “much grateful” for our sponsorship. She wants to know about our weather. She also talks a lot about learning about God and that makes us very happy. The letter has been translated but I noticed that Brenda colored on the little pictures of the letterhead. I LOVE IT……

Tomorrow is Friday. That is always a good thing.

Have a good weekend!

The things that children say

Last night our son Jeremy, his wife Sara, Kayla and Morgan spent the night here in between all their travels. We didn't have a lot of time together but what time we did have gave me such joy. Both the girls said something that cracked me up.

Yesterday Jeremy and his family were pulling a trailer when the trailer tire blewout. Sara was following in the car behind him and thank goodness they were able to pull over safely and get some help to get a new tire. It was really warm out and there was a dead deer on the side of the road too. I guess this was a little excitement for Kayla 6 when she asked her mom "are we going to be on Nancy Grace?"
That struck me as so funny because I watch Nancy Grace every night. Kayla's mom watches it a lot too and I guess that is where Kayla got it.

Then last night Morgan crawled on my lap. Last week she pulled her skin tag under her chin off and it bled a lot. I asked her "did you pull that off" She said "I went to the Doctor, got blood over and went Ouch that hurts. She was making that up but she was so serious. I laughed so hard.

Have a Blessed weekend!

Excellent Books

I really have been missing out. I am so in to my Amish Books I was not aware of this author. Her name is Francine Rivers. My mom told me how good her book "Her Mothers Hope" was so I ordered a copy. I could not put the book down. She is a Christian author. I learned so many lessons in this book. I cannot wait for the conclusion which will be out this fall.

Since I enjoyed that book so much I headed to the Christian bookstore on Sunday and bought her book "Redeeming Love" that was highly recommended by the salesgirl. Once again I could not put it down. This book was a stand alone book but I wish it was a series.

I am forever a fan of Francine Rivers. I bought another stand alone book and I am looking at the Lion series.

My grandkids, Todays Sermon, and saying goodbye to someone special

Grand kids

Yesterday we were able to talk to our Georgia grand kids Emma 5 and Logan 2. Emma was excited because she was going to get to meet the new babysitter. She also told us how she rides her bike all over and has not had a bike wreck yet. So cute. Oh and she has a new friend "Lucas" that she like to play with. Logan got on the phone and chatted a bit. He is so adorable. He sounds just like his sister. Then he hung up on us so that ended the conversation.

Yesterday afternoon our Oregon grand kids Kayla 6 and Morgan 3 stopped by to rest on their way back from Portland. They have not found a place to live yet so will be back next week. It was good to see them.

Sermon

Todays Sermon was from James 1:19-25 "Living the Word of God" There was no laughter this week BUT I did hurt myself. I let my bulletin slip through the seat and I needed it to take sermon notes. So after the prayer I got up quickly and slipped around the pew in back of me and I smacked my leg hard on the end of the pew. I had to sit with my cold water bottle on it and catch my breath becasue I thought I was going to pass out. I am sure it will bruise. Anyway the Sermon was on "Be quick to listen, slow to speak and get rid of the moral filth in evil. When we are angry or bitter it is hard to hear and live the word of God . We must reflect upon Gods word to be blessed by it. It is something I will be working on.

A Blessing

Last night our neighbor walked down and told us about about former neighbor Virgina. She was 85. Virginia went to her glory last Friday night. She was a good example of a Christan and we were blessed to have known her.

Beautiful

It has been warm for this area about 95 yesterday and 90 today. Our window air conditioners are getting some good use. Since I am having problems sleeping tonight I peeked out the window and look what breathtaking sight I saw out back

"To the LORD your God belong the heavens, even the highest heavens, the earth and everything in it." Deuteronomy 10:14 NIV

Updates, prayers needed, my family, and my heart

My friend Diane has been moved to the rehabilitation center. She is making progress but is still having problems with short term memory. Although she is making progress she has to relearn several things. She is building strength for the Artery bypass that she needs as soon as she is strong enough. Please pray for her recovery.

My co worker in another office just found out that his 15 year old daughter has Lymphoma. That is all that I know at this point and I ask for prayers for her and her family.

My daughter Jennifer and I are going through some trials and I ask that you pray that we can get through it with the guidance of our Holy Spirit.

My son Jeremy has been promoted to a store in Portland. They will be moving the end of this month. That makes them 1 hour closer (and no mountains to go over) . I am so proud of him and look forward to spending more time with his family. Please pray for a smooth transition and safety for them.

My daughter Holly just found out yesterday that she will be losing her job. Please pray that she is able to find another job.

While I have good and not so good in my life at this time I am turning it all over to the Lord as I go to one of my favorite verses

6Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. Philippians 4:6 NIV

Sometimes I just need to laugh

It all started last Sunday at Church. I was taught from an early age that it was not okay to laugh in Church. I got that reminder a lot because I get the giggles a lot. This week in Church during the sermon Marvin was pointing to his sermon notes in which he wrote "trails and temptation" instead of "trials and temptation" that is all that it took to set me off in an uncontrollable laughter. Soon I stopped and concentrated on the rest of the sermon. I just knew Pastor Barry had saw me. Then during the invitation song Marvins new phone started to vibrate and then it made it a loud noise, the funny part was the lady sitting next to Marvin turned to him and said "that was not my phone" once again I burst into laughter. I finally got it under control but felt really bad. I wrote Pastor Barry a note today apologizing because I felt so disrespectful to him and to God. This is what he wrote back:
"I did not notice you laughing in worship, but please know that laughter is always welcome in worship. I know you and am certain you would never do anything to intentionally disrespect anyone. Thanks for your concern and all is fine!"
I felt a lot better but I still know I have to keep it under control.

So this morning it started again for me, I get to work and shut of my SUV. I must have hit the panic button and panic is what I did because I did not know how to get it off. First I hit the unlock button, then the lock button and then I hit the panic button again and the was the magic button. Needless to say my heart was still pounding hard when I got into my office.

During my lunch break I was doing my online banking when I noticed a large check that cleared but I did not recognize the amount. My heart started racing as I realized I had wrote my mortgage check for the incorrect amount (it was actually my checkbook balance) It was a simple fix when I called and made the remaining payment over the phone.

So I did get my laughs in today.

Book of James

Our current Sermon series is on the Book of James. The Book of James is how to live the Christian life. James identifies himself as a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ. This weeks sermon was on "How to win over temptation. Pastor Barry gave a very good example of temptation with "fishing terminology" so we could all understand it . First you bait, then you drop the bait, then you take the bait and then you are hooked and fried. At the point where the bait has been dropped is where temptation happens. Although we are tempted the words in verses below clearly speak of the sin of temptation.

"13When tempted, no one should say, "God is tempting me." For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone; 14but each one is tempted when, by his own evil desire, he is dragged away and enticed. 15Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death.
16Don't be deceived, my dear brothers. 17Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows. 18He chose to give us birth through the word of truth, that we might be a kind of firstfruits of all he created."

More on Crawdads

After we got home from the coast we had to figure out how to cook the crawdads. I did not want them fixed in the house and since we had a burner on our grill I thought that is where they would get cooked. At this point I did not want to kill anything and it made me sick to think about boiling them alive. We could not get the burner to work on the grill so I let Jeremy cook them in the house. After rinsing them in salt water as instructed so they could regurgitate before they were cooked Jeremy brought them in the house to cook. Sara and I went outside because we did not want to see or hear any noises that they make when they were dropped in the boiling water. After they were cooked I walked back in the house and it smelled like seafood.....Kayla and Morgan where fighting over who could get more. They looked like baby birds with their mouths open waiting for more. I think that was a once in a lifetime experience.
