Trick or Treat

I was looking through some old pictures of when my kids were little at Halloween.   They always had so much fun.
Here is little miss Holly posing with a pumpkin

Jennifer and Jeremy

Aren't they cute

Now my kids are all grown and they are taking their children trick or treating or as Morgan says (Chuck E Cheese)  My kids also attended the Harvest parties at Church.

Happy Birthday Kayla

Kayla is 7 years old today.  She is our oldest grandchild.  She is so sweet.  Her parents had a birthday party last weekend for her.  When we walked in the door we were handed these tickets

and then she told us to read the sign telling us that her dance performance would start at 1:00
After Pizza it was time to open the presents

When she received an MP player that is all she wanted to do
But it still was time for cake and ice cream
Kayla forgot all about her dance performance because of her new MP player.
Happy Birthday Kayla!  Nana and Papa love you.

Thankful Thursday

I am thankful that I was able to spend time with my family last Sunday to celebrate an early birthday party for my granddaughter Kayla.

I am thankful after a week of issues that my head, toe and tooth are all better.

I am thankful that our roof is fixed and no more leaks.

I am thankful for all the rain.  It clears the air and has eliminated my headaches.

I am thankful that yesterday by the grace of God I was not in a car accident.  I had just left work and a truck turned without realizing that I had the right away and I was coming.  I was able to slam on my brakes and then when I started to go again the car in back of that truck did the same thing.  He was able to slam his brakes on.   My heart was pounding so hard.

I am thankful that my daughter Jennifer and son in law Matt got home safe and sound after the race they ran in on Sunday in DC.

I am thankful that Marvin is working this week.

I am thankful that I got to reconnect with a high school friend a couple of years ago.  She lost her battle with cancer last Sunday and now has gone to be with Jesus.

I am thankful that last Sunday when we were coming home from Portland that we got home safely.  We came through very heavy rain and a thunder storm with high winds.

I am thankful for all my blogging friends that have encouraged and inspired me.

My Week with 3 issues

This last week has been full of some pain for me.  It all started with my ingrown toe nail.

The Ingrown toenail
It is the big toe.  My other big toe had this same problem until I had the nail removed 29 years ago when I was pregnant with my son Jeremy.  That nail never did grow back right.  Weird thing my son has had to have the same thing done to one of his toenails.  Anyway this is how I like to deal with.  I soak it in hot Epsom salts and then I let Marvin do surgery.  I hold my pillow close to my face and bite it while he is working on my toe until I can no longer take it and then I kick him so he will stop.  Sounds amusing huh?  It is after my toe stop throbbing..  Anyway it is time again to have him do surgery.  I am avoiding the Doctor, can you tell?  My toe temporarily stopped hurting because my tooth started to hurt.

The toothache
After I had my root canal early last spring I had to go back in because my upper tooth above the lower tooth where the root canal was done was too high.  I still have been having problems but I don’t want to go to the dentist.  Lately it has gotten worse, I think because I grind my teeth at night.  Anyway when I bite down on something on that spot it sends a terrible pain though my mouth.  But soon I forgot about my tooth because I had a new pain, I bumped my head.
My head
I was so excited Thursday because we got off early from work because the Oregon Ducks Football Team was having a game and the traffic was going to be heavy.  So since I  got off early  I thought I would whip up my Cauliflower like potato salad.   I put some eggs on to boil and started the cauliflower to cook in Microwave.  I was chopping fresh spices.  I was making a huge mess too.  I was cleaning up as I went rinsing the dishes and putting them in the dishwasher.  Somehow I ended up bumping my head on the corner of the cupboard.  I saw stars and grasped the kitchen counter.  I can remember the Dog was starring at me.  My knees buckled and I was praying I would not pass out.   If I did I don’t remember.  I was able to get up and I lost my balance and was so dizzy.  I grabbed a frozen bag of veggies in the freezer and got to the chair.  Since I was home by myself and my daughter Holly was in town for the game I tried to call her on her cell phone that she had turned off.  She told me yesterday that I left a funny message (that she saved) I guess I said “this is mom, I hit my head, I can’t finish my salad because I can’t find the keys”  That really scared  me a little although I am okay and had a good nights sleep.  My head is much better today.

Today I just am dealing with a sinus headache......What a week.....

Spending some time with the grandkids and family

Whenever how ever I get to spend time with family are the best times.  Whether it is in person or a phone call this is what is so important to me.

Friday evening we shared dinner with our son Jeremy his wife Sara her brother Travis and granddaughters Kayla and Morgan.  There was a lot of noise and fellowship that took place.  After Dinner Jeremy, Sara, and Travis went to the movies so we could have time with the girls.  I just love the innocence of children.  Morgan was very noisy and deemed herself "the drummer girl"

Papa keep the girls entertained while waiting for the bird to get a drink.   The girls actually sat still and watched it.

Kayla spent a lot time coloring because she noticed I did not have any Halloween decorations on the windows.  Here is what she drew for me.   It is a very good picture of a spider web.  They have been studying spiders in school so she told us all about it.

Saturday morning we all got up by 6:30 (not by choice)  and Papa made Biscuits and Gravy.  While he was making it Morgan went and got the little keyboard and her and Sara's brother Travis entertained us.
Before they all headed out to visit Sara and Travis's dad and Grandpa, Papa Marvin dug some holes in the flower garden so the girls could add some more Tulips to the flower bed..

Before they left Kayla let me snap a cute picture of her modeling with her new purse that she happened to find while she was looking through my gift drawer in a dresser.
Even though we did not have a lot time to spend with them we enjoyed every moment we had.

Have a Blessed Sunday!

Marvins little incident

In January I blogged about how hard it was to back my SUV out of the garage with limited clearance and how I have had a few mishaps.   If you want to refresh your memory read here     Every time I had a mishap I told Marvin and he just shook his head and reminded me that I have to be more careful .   Marvin has had his car in the garage all week since he wasn't working.   Yesterday morning though he had to go into work for a test run.  So I backed out of the driveway onto the street so he could follow me.   I was wondering what took him so long.   He um had a little incident.  When backing out he hit one of his mirrors.  What could I say?  nothing I was so busy laughing......

Thankful Thursday

I am thankful that all the Chilean Miners were rescued.  It made the world work together like Jesus wants us all to do.
I am thankful that even though my husband is laid off from work for this week he still gets paid since he has vacation time left.
I am thankful that Jennifer, Jeremy and Holly always call and talk to me.  It was funny this week while I was on the phone for Jeremy giving him a recipe Holly called in and she also wanted a different recipe.

I am thankful that the weather has cooled down and the trees are beautiful.
I am thankful that we saw a snake in the backyard earlier this week. Even though I don’t like them I know they are good for your yard. We had not seen one all summer and we were afraid they were gone.
I am thankful for Pastor Barry at our Church. Each week he delivers wonderful sermons.
I am thankful that everything worked out for my daughter Jennifer so she could go back to school to be a Nurse.
I am thankful that we have shelter, food, clothes, transportation, and health insurance.
I am thankful that we have a loving God that provides for us in every need.
I am thankful for my mom. She is always there for me.

I am thankful for my daughter in law Sara.  She is a blessing in our family.

I am thankful that my daughter Jennifer shared with me some of the things she enjoyed while growing up.  We had to be creative when they were small.  We went to the Dairy Queen and then went out to the airport and watched the planes take off and land.   Funny thing is that Jeremy and his family still go to the airport and do the same thing.

I am thankful for my daughter Holly.   She encourages me when I need it the most.

I am thankful that I have a day off tomorrow and I get to see my son Jeremy, daughter in law Sara and granddaughters Kayla and Morgan.

Have a Blessed day!

Restful weekend

We had a good rest full weekend with it raining on Saturday.  We got a call from our grandson Logan.  He is going to be 3 in a few weeks,  He talks so well.  He told me his daddy was at the store getting Root Beer for Root Beer floats.  I asked if I could come over and he asked his mom.  He said yes come on over.  I told him I would have to get on airplane.  He replied "oh" he sounded so disappointed.  Anyway I told him we are going to visit him in the spring.  He said I could play with his sisters toys.  We talked about his trucks, cars and what he likes to eat.   He also said I can sleep in his bed.

I really don't think that would work.  Although I was able to fit on the bottom bunk of Kayla and Morgans beds.  That in inself is a story to be told.  LOL
Logan also to me if I come to his house that Mommy would make me exercise.  My idea of exercise is a walk or 30 minutes on the treadmill.  Jennifers idea is a lot lot more.
Jennifer and her husband Matt ran a race together on Saturday.  I am so proud of these kids.  Jennifer loves to run.  They are also training for another race.  Talk about a proud mother, Jennifer is going to back school.  I don't know she does it.

Our granddaughter Emma sang to us "I am proud to be an American"  We just love that song and since her daddy is in the Army they must teach the kids that song.

Even though are Georgia family is far away we carry them with us each day in our hearts.

Back to Jeremys

Friday morning we got up and made the trip back to our son Jeremy and daughter in law Sara's house so they could head out to the coast for an overnight date.
Kayla was still in school so we had to entertain Morgan.  She kept asked where her mommy was.  A few hours later it was time to go get Kayla from school.   After we got Kayla from school and we were walking back and of course we saw a snake and of course Morgan wanted to pick it up.  We made so noise so it would slither away.
When we got back home I had to take off my shoes and socks because I had a few sore toes. At the coast when I pulled my sock off  half my toe nail came off so on one toe so it was sore and then I had stubbed my other toes numerous times so they hurt so bad.  Anyway Morgan decided that she wanted to help me.  She ran to look for the tweezers and came back because she could not find them.  I was wonder what she was going to do to me.  So she had me come and help look for them.  She literally went through everything in the bathroom drawers looking for something that she could use on my toe.  I found some neosporin and a band aid and told her that would work fine.  She insisted on putting the band aid on for me.  It was quite comical.
Then the girls wanted us to go out back and turn on their waterfall.  Kayla was trying to help us figure it out but we never did.,   It is so cute because Morgan calls it "Klamath Falls" (that is where they used to live)\
We then went back in the house and I got on the computer to check email.  Kayla wanted me to play some games on the computer.  I told her I did not know how to play.  She said "Nana just bring it up and I will see if I can figure it out"  I was trying not to laugh at my 6 year old granddaughter wanted to help me on the computer.
Marvin and I were just exhausted from the trip and we normally go to bed early.  We headed upstairs and Kayla read her book to me and Morgan was playing.  I noticed that Morgan was laying on the bed with a bracelet hanging out of her mouth,   I panicked and grabbed it so she would not swallow it and told her that she could not have it back.  She put her toys aside ,laid down and said "I am mad at you" and feel asleep.  I felt so bad.
Saturday morning Morgan was up early and so was Marvin so they hung out downstairs until Morgan wanted to come back upstairs.  She then got a nosebleed (which she gets often)  Jeremy and I have the same problem.  Anyway she did not want me to help her because she knew what to do,  She was acting so old for a 4 year old.
Jeremy and Sara were back early morning because I think they missed the girls too.  We didn't have much time to visit because Marvin was going to the football game with Holly.  When we arrived home we found 5 sleepy guests in our living room because they had went to game day that morning at 5 am.  I was so glad to be home and then to top it off I had the house to myself after they all left so I could get laundry done and watch the Oregon Ducks on TV.

It was a wonderful time away and we are glad to be home.

Our last day in Newport

Last Thursday was our last day on the coast.  We headed down the bay front to eat at Mo's (known for their clam chowder) I don't like clam chowder but we usually always go their anyway.  I had some good prawns.  When we walked in I was so excited because there was a table of Mennonite women eating in there.  I am such an Amish fan I told Marvin I wanted to sit really close.  So we did get kind of close but not close enough to hear any conversation though.  I really wanted to talk to them and tried not to stare.  However they had a girl with them that was in a wheelchair and needed to be fed.  She stared at me the whole time.  I just smiled back.  I really wanted to take a picture but I did not want to be rude.

Anyway after we ate we decided to walk along the stinky bay front.  I just feel so icky when we are down there.  We heard the sea lions so we walked a ways to see them.  We really enjoyed watching them.  They were fighting over a place to lay.

If you look carefully here or enlarge the picture you can see a few sea lions
Here they were literally lay on top of each other for a spot.
.  Look the size of these.  Marvin thought they must weigh 400 or 500 pounds at least.

After all the excitement it was back to the condo to relax.  Next post will be about watching the granddaughters overnight while their parents get away from the night.

Onward to Newport

We got up last Wednesday morning and headed to Newport. We stopped in Tillamook and toured the cheese factory. They were packaging cheese. We also got some cheese samples. yummy....

Next we stopped in Depoe Bay Oregon. It was so warm out. I stood out by the walkway and the Ocean water blew up on me. It was wonderful and beautiful.

We were anxious to get checked into our condo and be lazy for a couple of days.  We were supposed to have ocean view and we didn't so that did not make us happy.  They also had to close the beach access because of the all the rain so it was too dangerous.  The condo was beautiful and we had a jacuzzi tub in the bathroom.   I love baths so I thought I get my lavender bubble bath out and have a nice soak and relaxing soothing jacuzzi with those four jets just hitting the spots.  Since the control has to be so far away from the tub I just started the timer and bubbles and water flew all over.  So I shut it off and cleaned up the mess.  I yelled for Marvin to come upstairs to turn in on once I ran a little more water and I was sitting down.  He turns it on and more water and more bubbles fly all over the bathroom.  I was laughing so hard but I got out cleaned up the mess when Marvin suggested checking to make sure the jets are all facing down.   Genius...Now why would the jets not be facing down if housekeeping just cleaned the tub?  wouldn't they want to make sure that water and bubbles did not fly all over TWICE????  of course that was the problem......I got back in and I could not relax so much for my jacuzzi experience.

We did have a great time and had lots of laugh.  Next post we head down to the Bay front.

Our 2nd day at Seaside

Tuesday morning we got up and walked about 4 blocks to have breakfast. Between the hot flashes and humidity I had to limit my coffee intake although I order a great Fritada that had some spicy salsa with it.
After breakfast it was too early to shop so we window shopped and then headed back to our room so we could read. I was absorbed in my Amish Novel while Marvin was reading his Western books. We had our balcony door propped open when I heard something so I took a look this is what I saw
this pigeon decided to pay us a visit. He was not afraid at all. I am sure he wanted something to eat but I just watched him awhile and went back to lay on the sofa and read until I saw this

The bird had moved over on the railing so he could look right in our room. I was so amazed and just stared at him for awhile. Finally I started back reading when he disappeared (to the room next door)
The funny thing about this is those pigeons are so aggressive. When we had been to the beach earlier I had to keep ducking because they kept swooping down.

stay tuned as we continue on to vacation in Newport Oregon.

Heading to the Coast

Monday we headed out in hopes of finding a Red Lobster for lunch before we head to the coast. We have not had a Red Lobster in town for several years. They are building one now and it will open in February. Anyway we had a great lunch and were enjoying being on vacation.
We then head out for Seaside. When we arrive it is to the grocery store since we have a condo to stock up on some goodies (bad bad food). Anyway we noticed the temperature was 81 degrees with a high humidity. This was not making us very happy as we wanted it to be dreary and cool like it normally is. We hit the outlet malls and I am literally burning up and had a bad headache. I finally found Marvin in Harry and David and went in stuck my head in the freezer for a few minutes. We soon get in Marvin's BLACK car where it is about 150 degrees and check in at the condo. We get to our studio and walk in and it is about 100 degrees in the room. I look everywhere for the air conditioner thermostat. There was not one because normally it is not necessary. We had a fan and left our door open. You can say it was one hot evening.
Finally it started to cool down at the time of sunset.

I just loved the wet sand and it formation from high tide.

Sea foam

beautiful sunset

stay tuned as I continue to tell about our journey as we have a unexpected vistor......
