Book of James

Our current Sermon series is on the Book of James. The Book of James is how to live the Christian life. James identifies himself as a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ. This weeks sermon was on "How to win over temptation. Pastor Barry gave a very good example of temptation with "fishing terminology" so we could all understand it . First you bait, then you drop the bait, then you take the bait and then you are hooked and fried. At the point where the bait has been dropped is where temptation happens. Although we are tempted the words in verses below clearly speak of the sin of temptation.

"13When tempted, no one should say, "God is tempting me." For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone; 14but each one is tempted when, by his own evil desire, he is dragged away and enticed. 15Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death.
16Don't be deceived, my dear brothers. 17Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows. 18He chose to give us birth through the word of truth, that we might be a kind of firstfruits of all he created."

God's Word also tells us to "Test the spirits to see if they are of God." In doing so, you can know when the "angel of light" tries to sway with "good intentions" that leads to sin. Thank you for sharing Pastor Barry's sermon.
Blessings and hugs to you,
Susie
