Day 31 Love Dare Love and Marriage

Dare-"Is there a "leaving" issue you haven't been brave enough to conquer yet? Confess it to your spouse today, and resolve to make it right. The oneness of your marriage is dependant upon it. Follow this with a commitment to your spouse and to God to make your marriage the top priority over every other human relationship."

"A man shall leave his father and his mother, and be joined to his wife; and they shall become one flesh." Genesis 2:24

Marvin is ready for a road trip

We are trying to think of a place to go to take the new car out on the road. We were going to head to the coast but since they have issued a Tsunami advisory I don't think we head there. I am okay to stay home today....Stayed tuned to find out the latest.

Kia TV commerical-NOT

Yesterday when Marvin called his Salesperson at the Kia Dealership to ask a question he said he was about ready to pick up the phone and call us to if we were interested in being in a new Kia TV Commercial. I am thinking double chin fat body NO WAY. I had Marvin ask "how much does it pay" The reply "A dinner or free tank of gas" Not enough. We passed......

Day 30-Love Dare Love brings unity

Dare- "Isolate one area of division in your marriage, and look on today as a fresh opportunity to pray about it. Ask the Lord to reveal anything in your own heart that is threatening oneness with your spouse. Pray that He Would do the same for them. And if appropriate, discuss this matter openly, seeking God for Unity."

"Father, keep them in Your name, the name which You have given me, that they may be one even as We are." John 17:11

Day 29 Friday Love Dare-Love's Motivation

Dare-Before you see your spouse again today, pray for them by name and for their needs. Whether it comes easy for you or not, say "I love You," then express love to them in some tangible way. Go to God in prayer again, thanking Him for giving you the privilege of loving this one special person-unconditionally, the way He love both of you"

"Render service with a good attitude, as to the Lord and not to men." Ephesians 6:7

Kia Camaro

Kia Camaro is what one of the guys at work called Marvin's new car today. If you remember his choice was between the Kia and Camaro. To see our day of car shopping click here

So imagine this coincidence when Marvin was looking at the reviews tonight and found this article by David Thomas,, December 14, 2009

The best thing Kia has done with the Koup is embrace a design philosophy that isn't boring. Despite a hood and front end that resemble the Civic, the rest of the car's design looks familiar, yet daring. The grille and headlights are the same ones found on the sedan and are making their way across Kia's lineup. In profile, there are even elements that reminded me of Chevy's new Camaro.

To read the whole review click here .

I guess it was meant to be. Yes the Kia Camaro.

Marvins new car

I just got back a few minutes ago from driving Marvin's new car so I can take it to work tomorrow. This car has so many gadgets. The first thing I noticed was this

It is called a sports shift. That answers it for me I don't play sports and I really don't even watch them. Since I(Janet) am a little challenged when it comes to new things I took it slow. I mean really, I don't know how to drive a stick shift.
Next it has this

You got it. RED lighting. Okay Red is my favorite color but when we brought it home yesterday it intensified my headache.
Next thing is

On the steering wheel there is a blue tooth, cruise control, radio volume and channel changing control.

It has satellite radio (which is good) and a lot more controls.

I have actually saved the best for last

See where the speaker is outlined in red on the door? You can set it to "mood" and it beats to the music. I am not so fond on that but this is Marvin's car. I will hardly ever drive it. I like my SUV (lots of room and I like to sit up high) so there you go. My review of the car. Now I am not saying that I don't like it because it is a cute little car. But I feel like a sumo woman because it is a COMPACT car. One more thing it has a girl horn (Marvin even agrees with me on that)

Day 28 Thursday Love Dare- Love makes sacrifices

Dare- "What is one of the greatest needs in your spouse's life right now? Is there a need you could lift from their shoulders today by a daring act of sacrifice on your part? Whether the need is big or small, purpose to do what you can to meet the need"

"He laid down His life for us. We should also lay down our lives for our brothers." 1 John 3:16

The new car

It official. The verdict is in. It is a done deal. Marvin picked the Kia Forte.

Day 27 Wednesday Love Dare- Love encourages

Dare-"Eliminate the poison of unrealistic expectations in your home. Think of one area where your spouse has told you you're expecting too much, and tell them you're sorry for being so hard on them about it. Promise them you'll seek to understand, and assure them of your unconditional love."

"Guard my soul and deliver me; do not let me be ashamed, for I take refuge in you" Psalm 25:20

Last night (Monday)

The beginning of my day did not start so good with the backing issues yesterday morning. BUT last night Marvin and I were sitting there watching TV when someone knocked on the door. The dog was barking like crazy. So Marvin looked out the window and decided he would answer the door because he said it was a couple of kids. I am holding the dog back by his collar and like I said he was ready to attack. Marvin opens the door and I see a rather tall young man swinging a club or something like that. At that point Marvin turned to me and said he may need some help. (he was thinking I may need to call 911) but I already had a plan in mind I was going to let go of the dog who would have attacked if someone was harming us (the dog actually growls at Marvin when he touches me) Anyway this kid said "we were playing Lacrosse (whatever that is) and I thought he said the cross flew over your back fence." Marvin told him he would go out back and throw it back over the fence. It was actually the glove part to the lacrosse racket(whatever that is)
Actually when I talked to our daughter Holly later in the evening she thinks that both her parents are a little crazy. She asked why Dad opened answered the door. She told me that she was worrying about us. That was so thoughtful of her but we are both just fine.

Day 26 Tuesday Love Dare- Love is Responsible

Dare" Take time to pray through your areas of wrongdoing. Ask for God's forgiveness, then humble yourself enough to admit them to your spouse. Do it sincerely and truthfully. Ask your spouse for forgiveness as well. No matter how they respond, make sure you cover your responsibility in love. Even if they respond with criticism, accept it by receiving it as counsel."

" When you judge another, you condemn yourself, since you, the judge, do the same things" Romans 2:1

A not so funny Monday morning

This morning I had a not so funny thing happen to me until I thought about it later. I have a problem backing my SUV out of my little garage. To see pictures and another garage story click here So anyway I was backing out this morning to go to work. I started to hit the right mirror when I was backing out so I pulled back in part way with a brilliant idea. I left the vehicle running got out and squeezed myself out of the back of the garage and than I thought I could make it through the other side of the garage to to push the mirror in. My plan did not work. I could not get through the right side of the garage I tried to squeeze myself in I really did. So I went back over to the left side of the garage and squeezed myself in (I am actually holding my breath now when I write this) anyway I was able to squeeze back in. Next plan I roll down the window thinking I would just reach over and pull the mirror in WRONG AGAIN. I could not climb over the gear shift to get in the other seat. (I really knew that would not work I am not sure why I even tried) By this time I am like what I am going to do. So I decide to pull all the way back in the garage and walk around from the FRONT of the vehicle and push the mirror in. That worked. I was thinking on the way to work why do I have to make everything so hard. I mean why didn't I originally walk around the front of the rig instead of trying to squeeze my body through the garage. Sometimes I just have to laugh at myself AFTER I have done such silly things. Earlier this afternoon I realized that Marvin had actually parked that way in the garage not me. So that is how my Monday morning started.

Day 25 Monday Love Dare-Love forgives

Dare-"Whatever you haven't forgiven in your mate, forgive it today. Let it go. Just as we ask Jesus to "forgive us our debts" each day, we must ask him to help us "forgive our debtors" each day as well. Unforgiveness has been keeping you and your spouse in prison too long. Say from your heart, "I choose to forgive."

"What I have forgiven, if I have forgiven anything, I did it for your sakes in the presence of Christ." 2 Corinthians 2:10

Day 24 Sunday Love Dare-Love vs.Lust

Dare-"End it now. Identify every object of lust in your life and remove it. Single out every lie you've swallowed in pursuing forbidden pleasure and reject it. Lust cannot be allowed to live in a back bedroom. It must be killed and destroyed-Today-and replaced with the sure promises of God and a heart filled with His perfect love."

"The world is passing away, and also its lusts; but the one who does the will of God lives forever" 1 John2:17

Day 23- Love Dare-Love Always Protects

Dare-"Remove anything that is hindering your relationship, any addiction or influence that's stealing your affections and turning your heart away from your spouse."

"Love always protects," 1 Corinthians 13:7

Friday, February 19, 2010

Day 22 Friday Love Dare-Love is faithful

Dare-"Love is a choice, not a feeling. It is an initiated action, not a knee-jerk reaction. Choose today to be committed to love even if your spouse has lost most of their interest in receiving it. Say to them today in words similar to these, "I love you. Period. I choose to love you even if you don't love me in return."

"I will betroth you to me in faithfulness. Then you will know the Lord." Hosea 2:20

My novel in progress

I have been writing a Christian fiction novel for about 2 years now. I am at a standstill and I have been praying for words of inspiration so I can finish it and then see what happens. I know I will need a good editor for one thing. The storyline is good. (I think). I have shared some of it with a few people. So someday I may finish it and you all may be able to read it. One of the problems that I have is my main character is named Hannah. I have been reading so many books lately that have Hannah as the main character too. I love the name Hannah but since I have not finished it I think I need to change it. Last year in bible study I told our small group about the name issue and I had many suggestions. In my book I tend to choose names that I like. I am looking for any old fashioned name. It may or may not be biblical name.

Day 21 Thursday love Dare-Love is satified with God

Dare "Be intentional today about making a time to pray and read your bible. Try reading a chapter out of Proverbs. Each Day (there are thirty one-a full month's supply), or reading a chapter in the Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke ,and John). As you do, immerse yourself in the love and promises God has for you. This will add to your growth as you walk with Him."

"The Lord will continually guide you, and satisfy your desire." Isaiah 58:11

Day 20 Wednesday Love Dare-Love is Jesus Christ

Dare-Dare to take God at his word. Dare to trust Jesus Christ for salvation. Dare to prey, "Lord Jesus, I'm a sinner. But you have shown your love for me by dying to forgive my sins, and you have proven your power to save me from death by your resurrection. Lord, change my heart, and save me by your grace."

"While we were still helpless, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly." Romans 5:6

Pictures with Bob & Sheri

So here we are in the first picture. Bob has eyes shut. I am pretty sure that I was squatting down

Here is the second picture

If you missed the Bob & Sheri story you can read it here
This was so much fun. Thanks Bob & Sheri. We love you guys.....and Bob I am so sorry I said you were short.

Every week day I ride the Elevator up three floors at work. There are 2 elevators. Anyway why do I ride up in the elevator rather than choosing the 40 steps up? let me see. It is because carry this

and this

and then let not forgot I stop at the door every morning and pick up the newspapers.
But back to elevators it is not that I am claustrophobic (well maybe a little), and it is not that I think that our elevators are going to fall three stories and I am going to get hurt. The reason is that darn elevator has a mind of it own. It may smell hot one day (but that does not stop me from riding it) It may do a little bumpy bump on the way up but that still does not stop me. Once it even stopped in between floors and I thought I am okay (there is a phone in elevator) but no phone book LOL.
Actually my co worker Andrea and were taking a large load of banker boxes filled with files in the elevator a couple of years ago with the hand truck. She steered the hand truck into the small elevator. Now this is out of the norm for our office jobs because normally we do our work on the computers. Well anyway it was Andrea, me and the hand truck in the elevator. We had to squeeze in. Then the elevator phone rang. We were laughing so hard because neither of us were even close to the phone. I think I was able to squeeze by and I answered it and it was the wrong number. BUT every morning when I get to work and ride up (usually by myself) these elevators stories pop into my head.

Tuesday Day 19-Love Dare-Love is impossible

Dare" Look back over the dares from previous days. Were there some that seemed impossible to you? Have you realized your need for God to change your heart and to give you the ability to love? Ask him to show you where you stand with him, and ask for the strength and grace to settle your eternal destination."

"Let us love one another, for love is from God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God" 1 John 4:7

Day 18 Monday Love Dare- Love Seeks to Understand

Day 18 is actually today's dare but since we have company we are going to do this one tomorrow.

Dare- "Prepare a special dinner at home, just for the two of you. The Dinner can be as nice as you prefer. Focus this time on getting to know your spouse better, perhaps in areas you've rarely talked about it. Determine to make it an enjoyable evening for you and your mate."

"How blessed is the man who finds wisdom, and the man who gains understanding." Proverbs 3:13.

A Valentines Day at Nana and Papas

Hold on a minute I need to catch my breathe....okay....
First thing the morning I made my Cinnamon Rolls from scratch for the family to enjoy. After I got them in the oven the girls opened their valentines and sat down to color.

Then their Mommy and Daddy then headed out to look at trucks. While they were gone we cut out some sugar cookies with heart cookie cutters. It had been a while since I have done this with a 3 and 6 year old. Kayla the 6 year old was a great help.

Morgan the three old was all about wanting to eat the cookie dough. She had me cracking up because she would cut out a cookie and then the little piece left she would stick in her mouth and say "I'm sorry" It was too cute but we had to watch her like a hawk.

We had a little break and then Jeremy and Sara came back with some heart shaped pizza's for lunch.
Next it was time to skype with the New York family. Emma our 5 year old grand daughter took our girl scout cookie order. She was showing us her green finger and green tongue. She had eaten a fun dip with the dip stick (Nana likes that candy too ) Then our son in law Matt came in the room and chatted with us and then 2 year old Logan joined the crowd. It was so adorable when he said "Hi Uncle Jeremy"
Our beautiful daughter Jennifer chatted for a while with us and then it was time for them to go.

After we got down skyping I mixed up some frosting and we decorated beautiful Valentine cookies with everyone helping. I am glad Sara and Jeremy were here to help.

After we got done with the cookies it time to mix up the potato salad. No watching the diet with this yummy family favorite.

While I was making the potato salad Marvin was melting some white chocolate and dipping strawberries. YUMMY they turned out good. This is also a favorite of mine.

Now we are taking a break before Marvin gets the grill out to grill the steaks. Oh wait while I am writing this my daughter in law yells to Marvin the toilet is leaking a lot in the new bathroom, Marvin just told me the toilet is cracked. Great Scott. What a day and it is only 3:40 here.

Some laughs today

Marvin and I have been do some funny things today and laughing so hard. They may just be funny to us but I thought I would share.
Earlier today we went to the grocery store to pick up a few items. We had just got done at the mall with our grand daughters and their parents at Build a Bear and had a quick bite for lunch in the mall. My morning hot flashes combined with the warm stores in mall had my head throbbing. I had already started the day with a sinus headache (like usual) Actually it has been a very mild winter here and has been in the 50s and low 60's so the trees and plants all think it is spring. So my allergies are in full bloom. So anyway we get in the checkout line and of course we always pick the one that there is a problem. So the first problem for the person a head of us was the cashier had forgot to get his cash drawer so he had to call for assistance. My patience was really being tested at this point because this store was very hot too. So it was our turn to checkout and I get ready to pay with my debit card and the debit terminal says "closed" the cashier calls for assistance and it still doesn't work. He is fiddling around with it and it still is not working. Okay at this point I am about to yell " CAN SOMEONE TURN THE HEAT OFF IN HERE" but of course I don't I stand there and patiently say "Do you want me to just write a check?" He says yes can you do that? Then he asks for my ID. What I thought he was asking me was for my PIN number for my debit card and so I asked him "What is an ID" this was a serious question until I realized what he wanted was my ID (drivers license) duh. I stated to laugh then and the lady in back of me was even laughing. Marvin and I are still chuckling about it.
The next thing we get home and do a few things and decide to take the dog for a walk. Marvin heads out the door and says "I have my keys but not my wallet. I say "great neither one of us have ID (there is that word again) on us if something happens. Now I am a person that is always prepared I carry pepper spray with us because some people do not obey the leash law. I had a sack and paper towels in case I needed to scoop poop. (which I didn't luckily need) Ok so back to the story Marvin slips on the front step with the dog in tow. He caught his balance luckily or he would have been flying headfirst right into my SUV. So I was laughing (a little). We got out on the sidewalk and I literally trip and lose my balance. We are actually right in front of out house and our neighbor was actually backing out so I can only imagine what he thought. I got my balance without falling but I almost ran back in the house to get our ID. So we actually laughed during our whole walk. We are our own entertainment.

Build a Bear with Kayla

It was Kayla's turn at Build a Bear. She knew exactly what she wanted. An "ICarly Bear."

She helped the lady fill the bear

She scrubbed her bear

She picked out a purple dress right away and then I (Nana) helped her dress her bear.

She sat down at the computer and with help from her dad she filled out the birth certificate. She name her bear "Carly"

BUT what melted my heart the most is when she wanted to sit with Marvin (Papa) and I and eat lunch. She just looked over and said "I Love you Nana" Those are the moments I live for.

Build a Bear with Morgan

Marvin and I tagged along this morning to Build A Bear to see our granddaughters Morgan and Kayla get a special treat from Mommy and Daddy. Morgan went first. She picked out a teddy bear.

She was so excited and helped and watched the lady fill her bear

She even got to put a heart in her pocket

She picked out an outfit and and dressed her boy bear.

Then it was time to name the bear and get his birth certificate

Then we were done

She actually was being held by daddy so Mommy could finish on the computer because she wanted to do it herself and told her mom not to touch the computer. She was really fighting her. She named her bear "Sam"
Morgan was really getting tired and looked at me and said "this is my Jeremy" at this point I thought she meant her dad (my son) because that is his name. I just let the thought go.

we were sitting in the mall eating lunch and we hear her ask her bear "Jeremy are you okay?" Her mom Sara and I were laughing so hard. We think that she has named her bear Jeremy.

Saturday Day 17 Love Dare-Love promotes intimacy

Dare-"Determine to guard your mate's secrets (unless they are dangerous to them or to you) and to pray for them. Talk with your spouse, and resolve to demonstrates love in spite of these issues. Really listen to them when they share personal thoughts and struggles with you. Make them feel safe."

"He who covers an offense promotes love, but whoever repeats the matter separates close friends" Proverbs 17:9

Day 16 Love Dare-Love intercedes

Dare" Begin Praying today for your spouse's heart. Pray for three specific areas where you desire for God to work in your spouse's life and in your marriage"

"Beloved, I pray that in all respects you may prosper and be in good health, just as your soul prospers." 3 John 2

Tomorrow Friday

Tomorrow Friday our 2 grand daughters are coming to visit for the weekend (with their parents of course) I am planning to make and frost Valentines cookies with the girls. We are looking forward to fun weekend.
Kayla is 6 and Morgan is 3

Emma & Logan

Today my New York grand kids Emma 5 & Logan 2 called me to thank me for the Valentines. This is Logan

He is 2 years old. He talks really well for his age and his mom tell me he is all BOY. He said thank you for the candy. He is so adorable.
This is Emma

She is a 5 year old Kindergartner. She loves to dance and is currently taking Tap classes. She loves to sing to me and Papa. We cannot wait until fall when we get to go visit them.

Our lunch date with Bob & Sheri

Today was our lunch date with Bob and Sheri and say give or take 200 other people. Bob and Sheri are National Radio Personalities that play on one of our local radio stations. They are very funny.
This was how it went. We met at

We got there 20 minutes before we were served our salads. The place was packed and HOT.

Bob and Sheri came into the room and started answering questions

They made us laugh and keep talking while the servers brought our very tasty entree of Chicken, Rice and vegetables

Then they brought a yummy cheesecake which I totally forgot to snap a picture of.
We then went and got in a LONG line to have our pictures taken with Bob and Sheri.

We will not get this see this picture for a few weeks. I am sure I am probably not even looking at the camera because I told the Photographer that I did not want my double chin to show and then I was trying to look not so Amazon next to Bob. I told him he was short. I HATE when things just come out of my mouth like that without me even thinking. I was so rude, I apologized and told him he was handsome. Sheri whispered something to me that I cannot BLOG about. Anyway they were such good sports in that HOT room hugging all those people and letting people like me tell Bob he was short. BOB I AM SO SORRY.....That is all I can think of. I never should have worn those shoes with those 2 inch heels that make me 5'8". Okay enough.

Before we left each one of us got one of these

and ended up with this stuff

It was a great lunch with GREAT entertainment. We love you Bob & Sheri.

Today is going to be a fun day. Marvin and I both have taken the day off work to attend the luncheon with the National Radio Personalities Bob and Sheri.
After we get done I think we need to come home do a few things around the house to get ready for our son, daughter in law and grand daughters tomorrow. That is correct I said I get to see my Grand daughters tomorrow. I am so excited. Stay tuned I am going to try to snap some pictures of the luncheon.

Day 15 Love Dare-Love is honorable

Dare-"Choose a way to show honor and respect to your spouse that is above your normal routine. It may be holding the door for her. It may be putting his clothes away for him. It mat be the way you listen and speak in your communication. Show your mate that he or she is highly esteemed in your eyes."

"Live with your wives in an understanding way...and show her honor as a fellow heir of the grace of life" 1Peter3:7

Wednesday, February 10, 2010

Day 14 Love Dare-Love takes Delight

Dare-"Purposely neglect an activity you would normally do so you can spend quality time with your spouse. Do something he or she would love to do or a project they'd really like to work on. Just to be together."

"Enjoy life with the wife you love all the days of your fleeting life." Ecclesiastes 9:9

I get so frustrated

When this happens

My dish towel getting stuck in the dryer. I have had this dryer for about 4 years and this happens often. It is just so frustrating. Sometimes it is a loose sock or something that is small. It does not happen all the time. I know it is a small thing but it still frustrates me.
