Birthday Memories

Today is my Birthday.  I am getting a massage later this morning and Marvin is taking me to lunch.  I am so excited and it is a day off from work.

Yesterday when I got to work the girls had decorated my office.   They are so creative.  Look at the snowflakes!   We had a yummy cake and I got some awesome gifts.  We all went out to eat. which is a treat for all of us.  Then back to work and early dismissal.  I love the people I work with.....They made my day special.

When I got home My granddaughter Emma and my daughter from Jennifer called from Georgia.  They wanted me to open my birthday present.  Emma sang me Happy Birthday.  This gift is so perfect.  I love it.

I am so blessed and the day is just beginning.  I look forward from a call from my mom (she already sent me a card and money) and my sister Joyce will call too.

Yesterday was a bittersweet day for me.  My Nephew Adam would have been 31.  We always enjoyed our close birthdays.  I wonder how he celebrated yesterday in Heaven with Jesus.

Blessings to you all!
Wishing you a Happy Healthy Safe New Year!

Our Christmas Festivities

Our Christmas Festivities started with the candlelight Christmas Eve service at Church.  We heard the most beautiful voices and heard an annual violin solo of O Holy Night.  I was not feeling really well so we skipped the ride to look at Christmas lights.  We got home and started to packing the my SUV for the trip to Portland on Christmas Morning.
Before we left on Christmas morning our daughter Jennifer called and told us about the their morning with Santa's gifts and tons of presents to open from the family.
We headed out early it was about 7:15 with a packed SUV including the dog, a TV, the roaster oven, an ice chest, our overnight bags, stockings and all the presents.  It was a nice drive up I-5

We arrived and unloaded all the gifts. We visited and had some coffee, got the ham started and waited or Holly and Ricky because the kids were ready to open the gifts. The girls also anxiously showed us all their gifts that they had already opened. We let the girls start with the annual ornament that they get from us. This year we found all 4 grand kids a snow globe personalized ornament the lights up. Below is Kayla showing us hers.
and then the girls started the opening the gifts

and then it was everyone else's turn

One of the gifts we got for Morgan seemed to be a hit with us all.  In fact Kayla played the keyboard while Aunt Holly, Uncle Ricky, Nana and Papa all joined in the song of the 12 days of Christmas.

After the opening of the gifts we were able to skype to Georgia and talk to Grand kids Emma and Logan and watch Jenifer make some yummy appetisers and talk to Matt.

Then it was time to eat some ham, cheesy potatoes, green beans and bacon and salad.

What a wonderful day full of family and all our blessings.

Prayers needed

Yesterday my friend L's sister K and brother in law M were in a head on crash.  K is in critical condition and has been through 4 surgeries thus far.  Her husband is in another hospital and in fair condition with multiple injuries.  The driver of the other vehicle also is in fair condition.  I also ask for prayers for my friend L and her family that they may be comforted during this time.

How many days until Christmas

Can you believe it?  I still have some shopping for the hard to buy for people.  (you know who you are J,S,H)  Anyway today will be filled with baking and making some Christmas candy to share with family and friends.

Recently I have reflected back to my first Christmas that Marvin and I married were in 1979.  I was pregnant with Jennifer and excited for new beginnings.  At the age of 19 I wanted to be creative (which I am not) but that first year I wanted to make something for the tree.  So I headed out to our local department store Pamida and found some ornament cutouts.  To this day I still have these on my tree and I treasure them more than any other ornaments I have.
Also I have has these 3 little angels for years.  To me they represent my sisters Joyce, Joan and me.  We had so many good Christmas memories growing up.  Our parents made Christmas such a magical time of the year.

Don't we look like angels when we were little
Joyce, Joan and Janet (me)

It is so fun to look at pictures when we were small.
Relax, Enjoy and have a Merry Christmas!

Happy 27th Birthday to Holly

Today is our daughter Holly's birthday.   She is 27.   So hard to believe.   She was actually due on December 24th but came a little early. She was our Christmas present. Below she is pictured with my mom on Christmas Day 1983.

Today she is a grown married woman that loves life. (and her Oregon Ducks)  She is a wonderful Aunt and loves to spoil her nieces and nephew.

We were so blessed when God placed Holly in our care as her parents.  We love you Holly.   Happy Birthday!

Football, Aches & Pains and getting ready for Christmas

I have been sick for the last few days with vomiting and severe muscle pains.  Today I am actually able to eat something.  I am not sure what was going on but it has not been fun.
Holly came down on Saturday to watch the Ducks football game with us. Every time they scored she would do push ups.

Marvin actually did about 15 but he took my camera away.   He is so strong.   Anyway the Ducks ended up winning and are going to the National Championship game in January.
After the Oregon game Holly went shopping, while I rested some more until the Nebraska game came on.  They did not win but they should have.  It was a good game.
Here is a quick peak of the tree with Max posing in front of it.
While I should be working on my Christmas letter I am still not feeling quite up to par so I am watching a lifetime Christmas movie while Marvin is working at the concession stand with our Church group at the Ducks basketball game.

Have a Blessed week!

An answer to a prayer

God is at work in my life and had revealed a plan to answer my prayer a couple of months ago.   After 31 years of marriage Marvin and I still have to constantly work to make are relationship remain strong.   It seems like were spending too much time apart, he was watching one show in one room when I was in the other  room watching another show.    My prayer was that God bring Marvin and I closer together.    Well I listened and it was not what I expected.   Marvin is a huge sports fan and he loves the Nebraska Cornhuskers Football.   I would sometimes watch part of the games with him but really not watch (you know what I mean).    Well this year in Gods revealing plan I am a full fledged Football fan of the Nebraska Cornhuskers and Oregon Ducks.   I have spent a lot more time watching football and of course I have so many questions.  Even when the games are over we still talk football.  We also have been watching several of the same programs which I just love.  Who would have every thought that football was an answer to my prayers.

A wonderful Day to give Thanks

Our Thanksgiving morning started at 5am with Marvin and I getting the 25 pound turkey in the oven.   Marvin washed the bird while I made the stuffing.  By 5:30 the turkey was stuffed and in the oven.
Around 7 our daughter Jennifer called
They were headed to a friends house to have a Thanksgiving Dinner.
Logan got on the phone

He sang me the ABC song perfectly.  He said that they were going to "Shells" house to eat and Emma was not going.
Emma then got on the phone and indeed she was going Logan was just teasing me

She sang the turkey to me.  In this picture she is modeling on her new bedding that she picked out.
We miss our daughter and her family so much but the call today made my day!
Holly and Ricky had slept at our house and soon they got up and Jeremy, Sara, Kayla and Morgan arrived.  This is what our day looked like.

looking for deals and watching some football
We played candy land and Kayla and Morgan played Doctor on Uncle Ricky and Aunt Holly.  When Sara got ready to snap the picture of us playing candy land Max wanted to join in the fun.

Kayla stopped to help papa peel, wash and cut the potatoes
and then it was time to eat

After the feast and the cleanup we took a walk, played Balderdash (I have never laughed so much) my sister Joyce called, I called my mom and I called and talked to my daughter Jennifer again since I missed their presence.  Marvin also called his sister Lorene.    We have been so blessed!
